Remaining time

The days you paid for aren’t lost; a year is added on top

Your domain’s remaining time carries over in full, and for most global extensions, such as .com, .net and .org, the transfer requires a one-year renewal that is added on top.

Your domain’s validity after the transfer

1 year and 5 months

For some local or special domains, carry-over policies vary with the registry in charge of them. Start the transfer at least two weeks before the expiry date.

Before you start

Five points that get your transfer request accepted the first time

These are the requirements of the global domain rules. Check them, and we’ll take care of the rest.

  • At least 60 days have passed since the domain was registered or last transferred
  • The domain is unlocked at your current registrar
  • You have the transfer code, the Auth Code or EPP Code
  • You can access the email on record in the WHOIS data
  • More than 15 days remain before the domain expires

The golden rule of a safe transfer

15 days or less to expiry? Renew first, then transfer

Renew your domain at your current registrar so it’s settled, then start the transfer with peace of mind; the time you pay for in the renewal moves with you and won’t be lost.

  • Expiry during the transfer

The old registrar may stop passing on the request, and the transfer fails.

  • Service outage

The name servers stop right away, and your site and email with them.

  • Steep redemption fees

In the redemption period you may pay several times the regular renewal price.

  • Losing the domain

If it expires completely, it may become available to anyone.

Transfer fees

Not a wasted fee, but an extra year for your domain

Transfer feeA year of renewalYour remaining time, unchanged

  • Automatic one-year renewal

In most cases, such as .com and .net, the fee includes renewing the domain for a year, added to its expiry date.

  • Varies by extension

The cost of transferring a .com differs from .net, .org or local domains.

  • Your current registrar’s policy

Rarely, the old registrar charges an administrative exit fee, so check with them.

The cost shows as soon as you enter your domain on the transfer page, and we sometimes offer exclusive discounts when you transfer a domain with a hosting plan.

Do I need hosting?

Transfer your domain on its own now, and add hosting when you’re ready

A transfer doesn’t require an active hosting account: secure your domain’s ownership with us today, and pick a hosting plan from your account in one click when you launch your site.

Why transfer your domain on its own?

  • Hold the name

You secure its ownership and protect it from being lost or bought by someone else.

  • DNS management

Point your domain to any external service, like e-commerce platforms or mail servers.

  • Ready for the future

You benefit from our renewal prices now, and add hosting later.

And why combine it with hosting?

  • Unified management

Your site, email and domain invoices in one control panel.

  • Automatic connection

No manual name server setup: the system connects the domain to the hosting on its own.

  • Complete support

Support handles the domain and hosting together, so problems get solved faster.

Contact support
  • Yes, absolutely! We welcome you to the Illevante family, and we support transfers for a wide range of global and local domain extensions. The transfer requirements are simple steps:

    1. 01Unlock: make sure the domain is unlocked for transfer at your current registrar.
    2. 02Transfer code (EPP code): get the authorization code from your current domain control panel.
    3. 03Request through Illevante: choose “Transfer a domain” in the Domains section of the client area, and enter your details.
    4. 04Email confirmation: approve the confirmation email to get the process going.
  • The transfer process is designed to be smooth and secure, moving your domain without downtime when you follow these steps:

    1. 01Unlock the domain: in your domain control panel at your current registrar, so it becomes open for transfer.
    2. 02Request the authorization code (Auth/EPP code): from your current registrar; it’s the transfer key that proves you own the domain.
    3. 03Start the request at Illevante: from the transfer page or the client area, by entering the domain name and the authorization code.
    4. 04Confirm the transfer: you’ll receive a confirmation email at your registered address, and once you approve, the process officially starts.
  • Yes, but it isn’t a wasted transfer fee; it’s an investment in your domain’s validity:

    1. 01Automatic renewal: in most cases, such as .com and .net domains, the transfer fee includes renewing the domain for a year, added to its expiry date, so you don’t lose your previous term; you gain a year on top of it.
    2. 02Extensions differ: the cost varies with the domain’s extension; a .com is priced differently from .net, .org or local domains.
    3. 03Your current registrar’s policy: in very rare cases, the registrar you’re leaving may charge an administrative fee, so check with them.
    4. 04The cost when you order: as soon as you enter your domain on the transfer page, the system works out its cost and shows whether it includes renewal for an extra year.
  • Usually 5 to 7 business days, and the time varies with technical and administrative factors:

    1. 01How fast your current registrar responds: most of the time is what the old registrar needs to approve the request and release the domain.
    2. 02The extension type: popular global domains such as .com, .net and .org usually follow a 5-to-7-day cycle, and some local or special domains may differ according to the policies of the organization in charge of them.
    3. 03Email confirmation: clicking the confirmation links promptly starts the process right away.
    4. 04Your site and email don’t stop during the transfer, unless the name server (DNS) settings are changed by mistake; the domain keeps working through the old registrar until the move is complete.
  • Nothing you’ve already paid for is lost; we keep your full previous term for you:

    1. 01Full carry-over: as soon as the transfer completes, the time left on your domain’s registration carries over and is added to your account with us automatically.
    2. 02An extra year: for most global extensions, such as .com, .net and .org, the transfer requires renewing the domain for a year, added on top of the remaining term.
    3. 03Example: if your domain has 5 months left and you transfer it now, its validity after the transfer becomes 1 year and 5 months.
    4. 04Minor exceptions: carry-over policies for some local or special domains vary with the rules of the registry in charge of them.
  • No, it isn’t required. You can transfer your domain to Illevante and use our domain management services even if you don’t want a hosting plan right now:

    1. 01Transferring the domain on its own: secures your ownership of the name and protects it from being lost, and with DNS management you can point it to any external service, like e-commerce platforms or mail servers.
    2. 02Ready for the future: you benefit from our renewal prices now, and add a hosting plan later in one click.
    3. 03Combining it with hosting: unified management of your site, email and domain invoices in the client area, automatic connection without manual name server setup, and support that handles the domain and hosting together.
  • Technically yes, but we never recommend it: starting a transfer in the domain’s last days (under 7 days) puts you in a danger zone that could take your site down:

    1. 01Expiry during the transfer: a transfer usually takes 5 to 7 days, and if the domain expires in the meantime, your current registrar may stop passing on the request and the transfer fails.
    2. 02Service outage: on expiry, the name servers (DNS) stop right away, and your site and email with them, until the transfer or renewal completes.
    3. 03Steep redemption fees: if the domain enters the grace period or the redemption period at the old company, you may pay several times the regular renewal price to get it back before transferring it.
    4. 04Losing the domain: at worst, it may become available to anyone, and you lose your brand.
