Overview

What is .school

The word school is one of the first words anyone learning English learns, so it needs no explaining to anyone. .school entered the internet’s root in 2015 as a new generic extension; it is run by Binky Moon, LLC and supports names in Arabic and DNSSEC signing.

It suits private schools, kindergartens, and language, music and art schools, and any place called a school. In English the word can also mean a faculty in some universities, but people read it first as a school for children, so it fits teaching before university, from kindergarten to high school.

Its price with us is fixed, the first year and every renewal, so you know its cost for years, and it’s higher than .com’s. Syria has a national extension for schools, .school.sy, so if your school is here, register both: the national one for your students’ parents, and .school for those who look for you from abroad.

Who it suits

For your field: is .school the best fit?

Every field has an extension that says something about it. Here is what .school says in each, and which extension completes it.

  • A private school

    Excellent · The first choice

A word every parent understands, and .com completes it for those who type the school’s name without an extension.

    Register it with.school.com

  • A school in Syria

Good · A good fit with .sy

.school.sy says it’s a Syrian school, and .school carries its name to those searching from abroad.

    Register it with.school.sy.school

  • A kindergarten

    Good · A good fit

Parents understand the word even if a kindergarten isn’t strictly a school, and its name before the extension completes the meaning.

    Register it with.school.sy

  • A language or music school

    Good · A good fit

It says you teach, and the word before it says what: a language or an instrument.

    Register it with.school.academy

  • A university or college

    Consider another · Consider .university

The word suggests children, and whoever grants a university degree needs an extension that says so.

    Register it with.university.edu.sy

  • A stationery store

    Consider another · Consider .store

Parents expect a school while you sell supplies; a trade extension is clearer.

    Register it with.store.shop

Tips

Before you register

  1. 1.school.sy with .school for your school hereThe first says it’s a Syrian school; the second carries its name to the world.
  2. 2The school’s name as parents say itIf people know it by its district or founder, make that the name before the extension.
  3. 3A short name, read as it’s writtenIf it needs spelling out on the phone, it’s too long or too complicated.
  4. 4No digits or hyphens that need explainingEvery hyphen or digit has to be said, and what has to be said gets forgotten.
  5. 5Renew automatically, or register for yearsUp to 10 years at once, so you never miss a date.
  6. 6Make sure the name isn’t someone else’s trademarkA registered trademark’s owner can recover the name from whoever registered it first.
