Overview

What is .surf

.surf comes from the English word surf: riding the waves, or the waves breaking on the shore. It speaks to surf schools and board shops, water-sports clubs, and those who write about the sea and beaches. It was added to the internet’s root in 2014, and IANA’s record names Registry Services, LLC as the body responsible for it.

The word has a familiar second meaning, “surfing” the internet, and some people may read it that way, which opens a door for a playful tech project but may confuse a sea school’s customer. With us its price is the same in the first year and at every renewal, and it supports DNSSEC signing.

But it takes no names in Arabic letters, and it is among the less common extensions, so it may look odd to a customer who hasn’t seen it before. Its meaning is narrow: if the sea or the waves aren’t in your work, it says something about you that isn’t true.

After expiry the website and email stop, and you can renew in the first eight days at the regular renewal price; from day 10 it may go to auction.
